About AKU
The Centre of Excellence in Women and Child Health, East Africa (CoEWCH EA) is a research
and capacity building entity within the Aga Khan University, working on issues of relevance in
developing countries to improve the health and wellbeing of women, adolescents, and children.

high quality of care that is also an agent for social development.
In line with its vision and mission, Aga Khan University East Africa, CoEWCH, is a proud holder
of the UNESCO Chair on Youth Leadership in Science, Health, Gender and Education” aiming at
equitable investment in the youth of East Africa to become the new leaders in science, health,
gender, and education. Through capacity building of youth in health and gender aspects,
training and mentorship in strengthening of life and communication skills, and indulging them
in research, the UNESCO Chair promotes scientific excellence and innovation, health and
wellbeing, and builds the health, social, economic, political and rights assets of young women
and men.
The Chair also aims to address gender norms and sociocultural practices in order to reduce
gender inequalities and sexual and gender-based violence. The AKU-UNESCO Chair main focus
over the last 4 years has been on health and gender, whereas the planned activities and
collaborations in the fields of education and science, have been considerably impacted by the
Covid-19 pandemic. New education and science initiatives have been launched in 2022.

Consultancy Summary
The consultant will work closely with the AKU UNESCO chair to support the goals of CoEWCH
EA.
Responsibilities
• Establish an organizational system
• Develop a 4-year strategic plan
• Train staff in multilateral relations
• Resource mobilization and partnerships
• Increase visibility and impact of the organization
Required Qualifications & Experience
We are looking for a mid-level professional with at least 5 years experience in fostering long
term institutional capacity of host institutions. This individual needs to have proven experience
in grant proposal writing as well as experience in global resource mobilization.
