About
Aga Khan Foundation Canada (AKFC) is a non-profit international development agency, working in Asia and Africa to find sustainable solutions to the complex problems causing global poverty. In Canada, AKFC promotes discussion and learning on international development issues, raises funds, and builds partnerships with Canadian institutions to support development. AKFC also brings together professionals within the development sector and those working in related fields to promote learning and knowledge sharing.
AKFC was established in 1980 and is a registered Canadian charity, and an agency of the Aga Khan Development Network (AKDN), a group of development agencies with individual mandates that address social, economic and cultural dimensions of development. Active in 30 countries, these agencies share a mission to improve quality of life and opportunities for the poor, without regard to their faith, origin, or gender.
Good health, quality education, economic opportunity, gender equality, clean water and air, nutritious food, and space to participate in civic life: these are cornerstones of a more peaceful, prosperous, and pluralist world. AKFC and its partners work alongside women and men to build a strong foundation for the future, and make sure they possess the knowledge and tools to sustain development gains over the long term. Many of AKFC’s efforts are undertaken in cooperation with the Government of Canada through Global Affairs Canada, other institutional donors, and with the support of tens of thousands of Canadians from across the country through the annual World Partnership Walk.
