Empowering Women Globally: Equity beyond equality

Event Summary

A virtual seminar led by industry experts, discussing their work within the movement towards gender equity across the globe.

Event Details

Women, girls and gender-diverse folk across the world remain systemically disadvantaged and under-represented in positions of power, both here in Canada and around the world. In 2023, Good Neighbors Canada is actively working on multiple programs to provide education supporting gender equity, not only for women, but for whole societies, to move towards the acceptance and empowerment of all genders worldwide.

As we approach International Development Week here in Canada, we invite you to reflect with us on the UN Sustainable Development Goal #5, Gender Equality, which the UN describes as being unachievable for another 286 years at current rates of progress*.

Join our virtual seminar on Thursday, February 9th, to hear from three special guest speakers in the humanitarian sector whose work is actively contributing towards the fight for true gender equity.

  • Dilinika Rajarathna, Gender Equity Advisor at the International Development Institute.
  • Olimjon Ahliddinov, Project Coordinator at Good Neighbors, managing the Better Life for Girls program in Tajikistan, central Asia.
  • Marie Meloche, Senior Program Coordinator of the Jane Goodall Institute, supporting women’s resilience to climate change in Senegal.

The series of talks will be followed by an interactive Q&A session.

Tickets start at $5, but pay-as-you-feel donations above this amount are welcomed. 100% of proceeds will go towards Good Neighbors’s gender education programs in Guatemala and El Salvador.

This event will be held as a Zoom meeting: Please remain muted throughout the presentations and feel free to switch your camera off or on as you wish.
