The Volunteer’s Role
Benishangul-Gumuz (BSG) is one of Ethiopia’s emerging regional states with an estimated total population of nearly a million people. The Regional Health Bureau (RHB) is making every effort to provide integrated, effective, and equitable health services through the extensively expanding primary health care program. Currently, there are 37 Health Centres and 398 Health Posts operating as primary health care units for the general community and few more are under construction. Nonetheless, limitation of skilled health workers, supplies, and management support has impeded the quality of services provided in most of these health facilities. Pawe College of health science is the only health science college managed by the regional health bureau in addition to the federal university, Assosa University. This college has no Gender Advisor that helps to analyze gaps that hinder the institution to serve the community at scale.
Overall purpose: To provide technical assistance and training to strengthen the ability of college staff to plan, implement, and assess program and management performance specifically with regard to gender issues.
Objectives :
- To provide technical support to the program teams
- Strengthen the capacity of the teachers and administrative staff in relation to gender
- To develop gender mainstreaming action plan which will include assistance to program staff in gender mainstreaming
- To develop tools/methodologies to enhance gender awareness-raising, mainstreaming and analysis
As a volunteer, you will:
-Build capacity of the teachers and administrative staff in gender matters
-Develop a gender mainstreaming action plan which will include assistance to program staff in gender mainstreaming
-Advise the college in relation to Gender issues
-Conduct training need assessment
-Develop tools/methodologies to enhance gender awareness-raising, mainstreaming and analysis
Essential Academic Qualifications:
-Bachelor’s Degree in Gender Studies, Law, Development Studies, International Development and/ or another related field
Essential Professional Background:
-2 years’ experience developing gender-programming and addressing gender equality issues.
-Knowledge of/ experience in gender mainstreaming, women's empowerment, Experience in advocacy
-Experience conducting gender-based research and analysis

- Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months
