Employment Type: Volunteer
Position Level: Mid Level
Salary Range:
Closing Date: May 17, 2018
Brief Description:
Length of Placement 12 Months
Open to Canadian Citizens and Permanent Residents of Canada only
The Volunteer’s Role
The Eden Center for Disabled Children (ECDC) works to support the rights and access to services for disabled children. Although there are millions of disabled people residing in Myanmar, the weak institutional support cannot meet the needs of the disabled community. ECDC works hard to advocate for the rights of disabled children and they also work directly with disabled children.
As the Disability Education Advisor, you will coach and mentor special education teachers who are providing services to children with disabilities under 18. While 80% of service provision from ECDC is based on this special education, the special education teachers need to become familiar with developing individual education plans, behaviour management, and advance pedagogies for children with disabilities, mainly with children with intellectual impairment. Additionally, you will work closely with staff to review and develop a suitable syllabus for children with disability. While the aim of this work is to improve education for disabled children at the ECDC centre itself, it further aims to act as a model for education for disabled children throughout the country.
As a volunteer, you will:
- Review the current practices and courses for children with disabilities
- Train and coach ECDC’s Special Education Teachers on the development of individual education plans
- Train and coach teachers on behaviour management
- Share updated teaching methods for children with disabilities
- Develop syllabuses for children with disabilities in terms of their grades and ages
Essential Academic Qualifications:
- Relevant special needs/inclusive education qualifications
- Qualitative Report Writing on progress
Essential Professional Background:
- Experience working with children with disabilities in behaviour management, developing IEPs and syllabuses for CWDs in terms of their ages
- Experience on developing academical case studies
