Event Details
Join us in celebrating “International Development Week (2023)”, an annual event organized by the International Development Postgraduate Program of The Business School at Centennial College. The event will be held in-person on Tuesday, February 7 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Centennial’s Event Centre. This year, as we mark International Development Week, we reflect on how far we have come, how connected we are, and how the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) can guide us to a resilient, inclusive and sustainable world. Our event is titled “Synergies and Stories: Fostering Partnerships toward Sustainable Development”.
Women’s rights continued to be at the heart of our IDW event. In the morning of Tuesday, February 7th, join the conversation on gender equality and its intersections through a panel discussion that focuses on promoting equality using a feminist approach, localization, positive masculinity, and housing rights to address injustice, marginalization, and climate change.
In the afternoon of Tuesday, February 7th., don’t miss the conversation with Stuart Savage, Director General for Global Affairs Canada, on why and how to “inform, inspire, and involve Canadians in Canada’s international development efforts.”
We will also create a platform for Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) to showcase their work, tell their stories, and communicate with students and professionals in the International Development sector. Join us to meet a dozen NGOs that will share information on their programs, best practices in development, and opportunities to engage Canadians in their international development work.
In Day 2, participants will have the opportunity to understand Indigenous Peoples’ rights and learn about Truth and Reconciliation, in an educational activity led by a facilitator, Cheryl Marek, of PWRDF. Please note that Day 2 is limited only to Centennial College’s community.
Our partners this year include Cuso International, Plan International Canada, Save the Children Canada, Rooftops Canada, The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund (PWRDF), Jane Goodall Institute, Ontario Nature, Beautiful World, Good Neighbors Canada, Right to Play, International Development and Relief Foundation (IDRF), HelpAge Canada, Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC), and World University Service of Canada (WUSC).
