The Governance Committee of Canadian Feed the Children’s Board of Directors is seeking skilled and passionate individuals as it enters an exciting and transformative phase.

At Canadian Feed The Children (CFTC), our core belief is that nourishment is a human right. To us, food is life. Our vision is a world in which children thrive free from poverty. We dedicate ourselves to our mission to unlock children’s potential through community-led action in Canada and around the world.
We support sustainable, long-term, community-led approaches to make our vision a reality. CFTC works together with local partners and the communities to implement programs that have positive, meaningful, and sustained impact on children’s lives and on the self-sufficiency of their families and communities. We are an award-winning, Imagine Canada Standards-accredited agency at the leading edge of practice in the development sector.
We currently operate in Bolivia, Ethiopia, Ghana, Uganda and Canada. In Canada, we work with Indigenous communities. As we stand on the brink of a transformative phase, we are excited to announce our new Strategic Plan, set to be implemented in 2024. This plan is a concrete step towards decolonization and further aligning our efforts with a community-led approach.

Integral to this period of transformation, we are seeking new members to join our Board of Directors. This is a unique opportunity to be part of a dynamic period of change and growth at CFTC. As a board member, you will play a crucial role in guiding our organization through this pivotal transition. Your involvement will be instrumental in shaping initiatives that are not only impactful but also embody our commitment to anti-racism, anti-oppression, equity, inclusion, and decolonization.
Specifically, we are focused on ensuring our board composition meaningfully represents the communities we work with. This is essential for genuine governance and aligns with our deep commitment to anti-racism and anti-oppression.
Our aim is to attract proactive members who not only enrich our organization's diversity with their unique perspectives, but also firmly believe in and advocate for a gender equality-based, decolonized, anti-racist and anti-oppressive approach. These members should demonstrate a strong commitment to our mission, embodying our values through effective governance and oversight. We value living/lived experiences and we highly encourage people with living/lived experiences as members and/or diaspora from the countries and communities we work with to apply.
Our board is composed of members with a diverse array of skills and experiences, and we are currently seeking to enhance this skillset. In our current recruitment, in addition to living/lived experience, we're especially interested in candidates who specialize in one or more of the following areas:
● Finance (a CPA, CA designation or equivalent is a significant asset);
● Legal expertise;
● Risk management;
● Strategy implementation;
● Marketing & Branding.
Board Member Accountabilities
● Term: Serve at least one three-year volunteer term with Canadian Feed The Children, the opportunity for a subsequent term.
● Time Commitment: Dedicate at least 10 hours a month to Board activities.
● Board Meetings: Attend four Board meetings a year and one Annual General Meeting.
● Committees: Join and participate in Board committees.
● Digital Proficiency: Demonstrate computer and technology skills for efficient electronic communication and document preparation, as this is primarily a virtual role.
● Active Participation: Engage in decision-making and support of Board projects.
Understanding that each individual comes with different experiences and expertise, we can facilitate tailored governance training for those who feel they need or want support in this area. We also maintain a “Board-Buddy” system for all new Board members. We invite you to be part of this exciting journey. Your contribution will be vital in helping us create a world where every child has the opportunity to realize their full potential.
