About this Opportunity
As the Senior Program Accountant, you will play a vital role as the main finance focal point for Canadian Feed the Children's programs in Canada and internationally. You will be responsible for overseeing and managing all financial activities and reporting related to our growing portfolio of programs. Reporting to the Vice President of Finance & Operations, you will collaborate closely with our Programs team to monitor the financial progress of CFTC’s programs. Your role will involve maintaining the chart of accounts, updating budgets, completing financial reporting packages, and acting as the primary contact for financial reporting with CFTC’s team and partners.

Responsibilities / Accountabilities
• Collaborate with partners to support and facilitate financial reporting requirements as per agreed schedules.
• Set up and maintain financial records for the Canadian program expenses, ensuring compliance with CFTC's accounting and financial policies, as well as CRA rules and regulations.
• Provide financial leadership, advice, and technical guidance for the Canada country office, working closely with Programs and Development teams, partner organizations, and communities.
• Perform budget data entry and ongoing monitoring of actual spending versus approved budgets, reporting discrepancies as required.
• Prepare budget and work plan figures for proposals and existing programs.
• Manage accounts payable, ensuring proper record-keeping, vendor statement reconciliations, and timely payment processing.
• Analyze and produce financial reports for the Canada Country Office and partnering organizations and communities, ensuring compliance with policies, donor instructions, and government guidelines.
• Review partner contracts and contribution agreements, providing recommendations for revision when necessary.
• Support the Development teams in developing proposal budgets and ensuring donor reporting requirements are met.
• Assist Canadian Partners with accounting practices and controls to meet required standards.
• Participate in the preparation and support of the annual audit and partner audits.
• Travel to partner communities in Canada and occasionally internationally to other country offices to provide support to the finance team.
• 6 to 8 years of related financial management and accounting experience supporting programs and partner financial reporting, analysis, and activities.
• Bachelor of Commerce degree or equivalent with a specialization in Finance/Accounting and CPA designation (or in progress).
• Experience working with Indigenous communities and knowledge of Indigenous history and culture is highly valued.
• Ability to build trust by demonstrating cultural competence and embracing and valuing the unique perspectives and experiences of others. Ability to foster an atmosphere of safety and inclusivity, where individuals feel safe and respected.
• Excellent interpersonal skills, ability to act as a team player and provide a high level of service to internal and external customers.
• Familiarity with charitable regulations in Canada.
• Proficiency in Excel (advanced skills, Power Query, etc.), Microsoft Power BI, and SAGE (300/AccPac) accounting software.
• Knowledge of other packages like QuickBooks, Simply Accounting, and ADP payroll is advantageous.
• Experience with Microsoft SharePoint and Microsoft Teams is desirable.
• Knowledge of ASPE and ASNPO accounting standards and financial management practices in international offices.
• Strong attention to detail, ability to work independently and in a team environment, and thrive under pressure.
• Willingness to travel within or outside Canada on short-term assignments.
