The Volunteer’s Role
Are you interested in helping organizations improve their institutional capacity and contribute more effectively to communication and climate action?

If so, then the role of Public Relations Advisor with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) based in the African Union might be just what you’re looking for.

In this position, you’ll work with GGGI’s team in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia to lead and develop partnerships and networks aimed at achieving and disseminating results.

As a volunteer, you will:

Develop strategies and interventions that focus on conducting a Climate Finance Capacity Needs Assessment and empowering gender, in line with the goals of the AU GRAP. This involves creating plans for communication and visibility and implementing them effectively.
Support the creation of a clear brand and messaging for the AU GRAP, which sets a positive tone for the cooperation between the AU GRAP and its partners. This brand and messaging should be adaptable to different channels and resonate with various target groups, with a focus on Climate Finance Capacity Needs Assessment and Gender Empowerment.
Establish connections with media outlets to improve media coverage, including print, broadcast, and digital platforms. This focus is specifically on Climate Finance Capacity Needs Assessment and Gender Empowerment and aims to improve the quality and quantity of media exposure.
Highlight the positive impact of integrating the GAC GGI into AUC, as well as the partnership between GGI and GAC, on AU citizens. Project a positive vision for the region that achieves the aspirations of its people, with a specific focus on Climate Finance Capacity Needs Assessment and Gender Empowerment.
Deliver press statements during major AU GRAP events, with a particular focus on Climate Finance Capacity Needs Assessment and Gender Empowerment.
Essential Requirements:

Degree or diploma in communications, environmental studies, or gender-related studies
Essential Background:

Minimum of 3-5 years of Public Relations and Communications experience with the ability to communicate effectively regarding issues related to gender equality and social development
Proficiency in communicating about the design, monitoring, and evaluation of gender projects
Demonstrated track record and expertise in environmental and social safeguards

Project – Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE)

Cuso International will deliver the Sharing Canadian Expertise for Inclusive Development and Gender Equality (SHARE) project, with a contribution from Global Affairs Canada (GAC) over seven years (2020-2027). SHARE aims to improve the economic and/or social well-being of the poorest, most marginalized and vulnerable people, particularly women and girls, in developing countries, to contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals. In addition to increasing the engagement of Canadians in international development and key global issues, this project will aim to increase the performance of country partners to deliver more inclusive, innovative and environmentally sustainable development initiatives that advance gender equality, in support of the action areas of Canada’s Feminist International Assistance Policy.

GGGI has been working in Ethiopia since 2010, supporting the Government of Ethiopia’s efforts in the development and implementation of a Climate Resilient Green Economy (CRGE) Strategy. This involves collaborating toward the delivery of Ethiopia’s vision of becoming a climate-resilient middle-income economy by 2030, with a zero-net increase in carbon emissions. Additionally, the aim is to facilitate key systemic transformations in the economy and generate innovative ideas toward a climate-resilient green economy.

Terms and Conditions
Cuso International’s terms and conditions allow you to lead a modest and healthy lifestyle while being effective in your placement. This support package will cover basic living expenses for one volunteer and is not intended to cover home-based expenses (eg. loans, support payments, etc.) or luxury items such as imported items in placement or international personal travel.

Support Package

Modest monthly living allowance
Accommodation while in placement (Volunteers will have their own bedroom and bathroom while sharing the living room and kitchen, with other volunteers)
Round-trip airfare and visa/work permit costs
Cost of required vaccinations, antimalarial medication, and health insurance
Pre-departure training, in-country orientation and reintegration debriefing
On-the-ground support through our Cuso International’s Country Program Office
Access to Employee Assistance Program while in placement and upon return
Bonus: Additional return flight home or cash in lieu after 12 months of service for volunteers who extend for another 6 months

Provide two Professional References and one Personal Reference
Complete an oral assessment during your preliminary telephone interview in the language required for your placement
Obtain a Police Check at our request
Complete a full medical exam and be medically cleared before your departure

Fundraising

We ask each volunteer, regardless of placement length, to raise $2,000. All volunteers receive support from Cuso International to help achieve the goal through fundraising. If the volunteer chooses not to fundraise or is unable to achieve the fundraising goal, he/she can make a one-time donation or become a monthly donor to support our work.
