Brief Description:
The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-based international development and global education organizations and individuals working globally for social justice.
Interested in gaining experience supporting a dynamic team with community engagement programs? Reporting to the Community Engagement and Gender Equality Specialist, the Programs Lead Volunteer(s) will work with OCIC staff, offering an opportunity to collaborate with and learn from experienced colleagues and key actors in the International Cooperation sector.
This is a virtual position, with periodic meetings and activities in Toronto. Candidates will ideally reside in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), in Ontario, Canada.
Scope of work:
- Actively participate in meetings and provide administrative and logistical support to OCIC’s Youth Policy - Makers Hub activities (including our fall (YPH) ‘Policy Matters’ Sessions, and an in-person retreat in early October)
- Organize ‘Coffee Chats’ to facilitate peer-to-peer exchange between YPH members in November, January and February
- Provide administrative support for the selection of OCIC's Delegation to the 69th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women
- Help to document and report on good practices and lessons learned
- Commit to approximately 5 hours per week (or an average of 20 hours per month), from August 2024 to May 2025
Desired Qualifications:
- Understanding of and passion for gender equality and youth engagement issues
- Experience supporting community engagement activities with youth audiences and diverse actors
- Community / grassroots organizing experience, lived experiences of intersectionality, alternative educational routes and non-traditional backgrounds
- Creative ideas, enthusiasm, skillful communications and writing abilities
- Interest in national and International policy frameworks and forums such as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action (BPfA), the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW), and Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP)
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace
- Knowledge of or interest in global social justice issues and the work of international cooperation and solidarity-focused non-profit and community-led organizations
- Understanding of anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practice
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
- Detail-oriented, with experience managing logistics and a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team
