Brief Description:

The successful candidate will provide fundraising and communications support to management and project operations activities for our international projects. The candidate brings a teamwork approach to the position. Reporting into the Executive Director, the Fundraising & Communications Officer is a permanent, full-time salaried position based in Toronto, expected to start in July 2024. The selected candidate will work in a hybrid environment.

OVERVIEW OF ROLE
The successful candidate will provide fundraising and communications support to management and project operations activities for our international projects. The candidate brings a teamwork approach to the position. Reporting into the Executive Director, the Fundraising & Communications Officer is a permanent, full-time salaried position based in Toronto, expected to start in July 2024. The selected candidate will work in a hybrid environment.

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Fundraising Portfolio Activities (60%)
· Work with the Executive Director, staff, and consultants to prepare and manage direct mail and on-line fundraising campaigns; manage databases, donor administration; prepare fundraising reports and analysis.
· Develop educational and informational materials for the fundraising lifecycle in the form of slide decks, infographics, social media posts, brochures, flyers, summary reports and other materials as applicable to specific fundraising initiatives.
· Build and sustain donor relationships with active personal engagement.
· Research and support public engagement opportunities for staff and the organization.
· Assist with managing website and social media presence by posting materials, updating databases.
· Assist with coordination of public relations and networking events in Canada including logistics, organizing the transportation of display and promotional materials.
· Work with the Executive Director to establish the organization’s annual and long-term fundraising strategy and resulting plan of activities.
· Track, analyze and report on the ongoing fundraising portfolio to provide information to the Rooftops Canada team and Board of Directors to enhance decision-making and planning activities.

Communication Activities (30%)
· Manage the process for all public-facing communications, including the newsletter, social media presence, donor communication, philanthropic campaign communications, etc.
· Write articles, letters, social media posts using uniquely developed content and, as applicable, gathering and utilizing content from our international partners, contractors, technical advisors in the field, and Young Professionals program participants to create written content, stories and videos to tell the story of the organization’s impactful work.
· Create applicable communication and educational materials targeted for the Canadian social and cooperative housing sector to strengthen Rooftops Canada’s Canada-based networks and relationships with stakeholder groups.
· Represent Rooftops Canada in public speaking opportunities for promotion, education, and awareness-building.
· Support the Women's Spaces communications committee to align project communications with project objectives and obligations to Global Affairs Canada (GAC).

Administration (10%)
· Assist with support to overseas Young Professionals program participants, technical advisors in arranging project study visits to and from Canada including: visa applications, travel and contractual arrangements.
· Act as a liaison with international partners to ensure accurate, well documented, and timely overseas expense reporting as per GAC project administration guidelines.
· Due to time difference with international partners availability to support and conduct early morning virtual meetings is occasionally required. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required.
· Provide senior level executive assistance and administrative support to the Executive Director.
· Assist with Board Directors on-boarding, preparations, carrying out Board and committee meetings and preparing meeting minutes as requested.
· General administration including: filing government documents and timely updating of information, managing and forwarding general e-mail and other enquiries to staff and preparing responses as appropriate, manage office space, supplies and equipment.

· Other duties as required.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
· This position requires a self-starting independent individual to produce high quality work with minimal oversight.
· The successful candidate will have 5+ years of related experience, ideally in the not-for-profit sector in Canada in a globally-focused CSO, NGO or other international development organization.
· Experience in fundraising/donor administration, building relationships with existing and potential donors and database management (Silent Partner/Sumac, Grant Connect, Grant Station).
· Proven experience in building relationships with high value donors and donor organizations through communication campaigns and individual donor cultivation initiatives.
· Strong organizational and record keeping/management skills.
· Excellent proficiency in MS Office Suite and, ability to learn new software and office communications applications.
· Demonstrated experience in developing updates to social media applications, website and databases.
· Excellent written communications skills in English including proof reading, editing and formatting documents.
· Comfort meeting, collaborating and delivering work in virtual settings.
· Experience with Global Affairs Canada (GAC) project administration would be an asset.
· Additional language competences is a desired asset (e.g. French, Spanish, Portuguese).

This is a permanent, full-time salaried position based in Toronto. Salary is within Rooftops Canada’s salary framework and will be accompanied by an incentive program (currently being developed for 2025).
