About the Position
Ethiopiaid Canada is a charitable international development organization based in Ottawa with a mission to provide poverty relief, education, and maternal health services in Ethiopia. Our programming focuses on increasing access to maternal health services, reducing barriers to education for vulnerable children, and supporting the empowerment of women and girls.
What to Expect in this role?
We are a small organization with high impact results for marginalized populations in Ethiopia. Ethiopiaid was incorporated as a charitable non-profit in 2009, and is part of the international network with offices in the United Kingdom, Ireland, and Australia.
We are seeking a qualified candidate for the role of Executive Director, who periodically reports to the Board of Directors. The Executive Director will be responsible for ensuring the long term sustainable growth of the organization and will deliver operational oversight and management to ensure that targets are delivered.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
Strategy and Business Oversight:
To deliver strategic plans aligned to the charity’s vision and values.
Maintain and manage official records, documents, compliance with regulations and effective risk management.
To contribute to the development of the global strategy shared with sister charities in Australia, United Kingdom, and Ireland.
To oversee Ethiopiaid Canada’s Global Affairs Project (ending 2024)
Finance and Governance
Responsible for all financial, legal and corporate functions.
Responsible for the overall financial health of the charity.
Set, direct and evaluate annual budgets.
Ensure secure and efficient grant transfers to partners in Ethiopia
Carry out robust and realistic annual operational planning.
Lead all partner relations in Ethiopia.
Develop tools to effectively evaluate the impact of Ethiopiaid’s funding.
Fundraising and Donor Relationships:
Stewardship and donor relations of current and new donors
Expand organization’s revenue through fundraising
Develop and manage additional fundraising income streams to complement existing funding
Establish funding targets and ensure robust and realistic fundraising strategies to maximize opportunities
Support and lead the Ethiopiaid team on delivering successful income generation
Oversee submission of grant proposals and reports.
Leadership
Manage Ethiopiaid staff and volunteers
Ensure wellbeing and resilience of staff and volunteers.
Lead Ethiopiaid volunteer recruitment
Create a supportive and efficient workplace for staff and volunteers
Inform the board of directors on Ethiopiaid activities, operations, and future directions.
Qualifications
Undergraduate Degree in International Development, Peace Studies, Business Development, Social Sciences, or other relevant degree.
1-3 years’ experience with annual budgeting and organization financial management
Strong knowledge and understanding of fundraising markets in Canada including direct mail and online fundraising.
Proven experience of diversifying income streams, improving income and driving positive change.
Experience managing government funded grants or programs
Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple responsibilities
Excellent relationship management, interpersonal skills and ability to lead and motivate others
Experience in donor stewardship, major gifts or planned giving programs
Experience writing grant proposals and reports
Understanding of monitoring & evaluation of international development projects
Prior experience in an Executive Director role is an asset
Knowledge of Salesforce or other CRMs is an asset
French language proficiency is an asset
