WUSC and its consortium partner, Canadian Leaders in International Consulting (CLIC), are implementing the Women’s Economic Linkages and Employment Development (WE LEAD) project in Jordan. WE LEAD, a project funded by Global Affairs Canada, aims to increase women’s empowerment for sustainable economic growth; this will be achieved through activities focusing on women’s employment by businesses and the reduction of gender-specific barriers to women entering into and remaining in the workforce. The WE LEAD project is being implemented over a period of four years, from March 7, 2017 to March 31, 2021 in three locations (East Amman, Irbid and Salt) in Jordan.
The project is seeking to recruit an experienced Early Childhood Development (ECD) Advisor who can contribute to early childhood development and child care service management and capacity building in Jordan. The ECD Advisor will play a crucial role in providing guidance to ensure that sustainable, relevant and affordable child care strategies are being piloted under the WE LEAD project, following global best practices and experiences. The ECD Advisor will be a core member of the WE LEAD Project Team, working as a technical resource to develop tools and resources, as well as capacity development (training and coaching) to the project staff and partners to develop and implement a solid and scalable approach to childcare that addresses the needs of the beneficiaries, private sector partners, and training institutions engaged in the project.
More specifically, the ECD Advisor will work closely with local implementing partners, private sector partners, training institutions, and the WE LEAD team to strengthen the development and delivery of sustainable, affordable, and scalable childcare solutions that can enable women to enter into, and remain in, the workforce.
ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the overall implementation of childcare component under the WE LEAD project in collaboration with WE LEAD team.
- Provide advice and guidance on early childhood development and childcare models that include best practices, innovations and approaches
- Review the recommendations from the the childcare assessment and advise in the partners selection process.
- Support efforts to identify and implement outreach strategies to address accessibility barriers, changing trends and needs within the community to benefit from childcare services
- Support WE LEAD training Providers to identify child care modalities that can be implemented within their facilities as per the students needs.
- Support the Private Sector Partnerships Officer in ensuring sustainable engagement and participation of the private sector in the development and implementation of the pilot childcare strategies in the three project locations
- Work closely with the Gender Equality Officer to ensure that the identified childcare strategies are in line with the WE LEAD Gender Strategy and meet the needs of the women beneficiaries
- Support capacity development of childcare staff through training and coaching as needed
- Provide technical support to local partners to develop childcare manuals and policies that are in line with international standards and national policies and requirements,
- Develop an approach to Identify best practices in the project that can be good case studies to highlight in communication material
- Support the M&E Officer to develop the tools related to child care component.
- Participate in relevant working groups and maintain close working relationships with counterparts and relevant international NGOs in Jordan
- Participate in WUSC / CLIC’s communications work by providing data, information and other material for use with WUSC and CLIC’s Canadian and international programming;
- Undertake any other tasks assigned by the Country Director.
- College Diploma or equivalent in early childhood development, education, or other relevant field;
- A minimum of 3-4 years of active work or volunteer experience in childcare and/or early childhood education required; ideal candidate will have both theoretical and practical experience
- Good track record of achieving improved outcomes in Early Childhood Development / childcare activities,
- Experience in developing childcare support services in coordination with a variety of stakeholders and partners;
- Proven understanding of gender equality and empowerment;
- Strong personal initiative, resourcefulness and capacity to work independently
- Strong communication and writing skills
- Strong analytical and research skills
- Proven ability to work productively with a variety of stakeholders to run participatory processes and meet tight deadlines with an emphasis on producing quality products;
- Excellent capacity building skills, with demonstrated experience in effective training, coaching and facilitation.
- Experience working in or volunteering in the Middle East is an asset;
- Fluency in oral and written English essential; working knowledge of Arabic is an advantage.

- Applicants must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident of Canada between the age of 18-70.
- Departure date is contingent upon the timely completion of all administrative requirements (e.g. visa processes, medical clearance, police checks, travel documentation).
- With the support of the program, all volunteers shall undertake to make a minimum financial contribution of $1,500 for participating in the program.
