Brief Description:
This is an exciting opportunity for a health professional to contribute to a new regional nutrition project led by CARE Canada. The Southern Africa Nutrition Initiative (SANI) will improve the nutrition of women of reproductive age and reduce stunting of children under five years old in Mozambique, Zambia and Malawi. The Community Health Advisor will contribute to the implementation of the SANI project in Mozambique.
More specifically, as part of CARE Mozambique’s existing Emergency Response to the El-Niño affected drought in Southern Africa, volunteers (Masungukate) who conduct house-to-house visits to enable improved early child development among children under five have been trained to detect cases of malnutrition. They refer cases to the local health centre, but in many cases, capacity at the centres themselves is weak. We would like the Community Health Advisor to support us in strengthening the referral system and in particular the quality and timeliness of the clinical services provided to children under 5 in terms of nutrition.
