Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals will require collaboration across sectors, disciplines, and regions. This includes working with governments and policy makers. Without committed advocacy to our policy makers, we will not see the results we need in ensuring a world free of extreme poverty. In order to achieve this, we need those working in global poverty and allies to see themselves as advocates, with the skills, knowledge, and desire to push for the changes agreed to in Agenda 2030.
From April to May, 2020, OCIC and Results Canada held an Advocacy Bootcamp Series to strengthen participants’ skills as an advocate for sustainable development and global poverty issues.
Using Results Canada’s advocacy model, participants in the workshops have learned about:
- What advocacy is and why it is necessary in achieving the SDGs;
- A collection of advocacy tactics and methods that could be applied to moving their own work forward and the confidence to do so;
- An overview of some of the best practices, challenges, and opportunities in international development advocacy.
