KWIC 30TH: KEYNOTE WITH BAYO AKOMOLAFE

Event Details

Join us for a KWIC 30th Anniversary Presentation on Thursday, October 10th, titled ‘The Gift of the Crossroads: Agency, Responsibility and Justice in the Anthropocene with international author, speaker, lecturer, and renegade academic, Bayo Akomolafe.

Bayo will talk about how the Anthropocene, as we are currently experiencing it, is disrupting our commonly held conceptions about social change, racial justice, and hope, and pushing us towards the otherwise; other places of power and the in-between spaces they might be found. Bayo articulates a different framing of activism and sense-making, of racialization and an urgent need to slow down in times of trouble. Recognizing, as he would say, that “the poison is not in the pot, the poison is the pot” – meaning our way of responding to the crisis (climate change, environmental degradation, poverty, schooling systems, etc.) are all part of the crisis.
