Canada’s new federal government has moved quickly on several pieces of legislation with significant impacts on the human rights of Indigenous Peoples. Relatedly, the Supreme Court of Canada and other lower courts have released several decisions that reference the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples. One case refers explicitly to the UN Declaration as being part of Canada’s positive law. This webinar will explore the importance of a sustained commitment to implementation of the Declaration, how that implementation should look, the legal implications of the Declaration, and the political challenges of the day.
