The Opportunity
OCIC invites nominations from qualified candidates to join our Board of Directors for a two year term. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute your skills, knowledge, lived experience and perspectives on international cooperation and solidarity, and to help support and strengthen the transformative impact of the Council. Working alongside others with shared values and commitment, you will also expand your abilities while contributing to strategic leadership and sharing of good practices in non-profit organizational governance, effectiveness and impact.

About OCIC
The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-based international cooperation and global citizenship-focused members, volunteers and other individuals committed to working for global social justice, human dignity and participation for all.

Our Strategic Directions:

- Influence and Inspire Global Citizenship, creating values-based, inclusive, and accessible spaces that spark curiosity, deepen understanding, and motivate sustained action; and
- Facilitate Knowledge Exchange and Capacity Strengthening, convening diverse actors to co-create knowledge, share learning, exchange with promising practices, and build the skills needed to design and implement inclusive, rights-based approaches; and
- Foster Collaboration and Community-Led Action, nurturing relationships and creating opportunities for collaborative, community-led initiatives to flourish, both within Ontario and in partnership with national and global actors; and

In our current programs OCIC facilitates and engages our members and other Ontario-based actors to develop capacity to deliver innovative, inclusive programming that advances gender equality, Agenda 2030 and the UNs Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We also work in close collaboration with the Inter-Council Network of Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation (ICN), Cooperation Canada, and many other networks to support relevant national programs, projects and initiatives with and for the sector.

Our Board of Directors
OCIC’s Board of Directors is composed of volunteer professionals that understand and demonstrate commitment to our vision, mission, mandate, values, and strategic directions, and contribute to the overall governance of the Council, including oversight of strategy and fiscal accountability. Elected by our member organizations, OCIC Board Directors bring unique assets, influence and energy to the table.

Responsibilities of OCIC Board Directors include:
- Becoming fully conversant with the roles and responsibilities of the Board and Board Members;
- Becoming fully conversant with the vision, mission, mandate, operations, programs, challenges and opportunities facing OCIC and its primary partners, such as the Inter-Council Network of Provincial and Regional Councils for International Cooperation (ICN);
- Attending and contributing to an annual planning retreat, quarterly meetings of the Board, and our Annual General Meeting;
- Serving as a member of one or more Board Committees, and attending and contributing to Committee meetings;
- Being well-informed of sectoral issues and prepared to discuss or address them at Board meetings;
- Working collectively to set, articulate and fulfil the OCIC Strategic Plan;
- Being a channel of communication with the membership of OCIC;
- Representing OCIC and the Board on occasion, as requested;
- Contributing personal experience and expertise to the work of the Board in support of the work of the Council; and
- Facilitating collaborative decision making by the Board;
- Performing other duties as directed by the Board.

The mandate of OCIC Board Directors includes:
- To provide efficient and effective governance of the operations and programs of OCIC;
- To articulate policies and set strategic directions to guide the staff to fulfilling the mission of OCIC;
- To monitor operations and programs of OCIC, ensuring adherence to policies and strategic directions;
- To ensure the strong financial health of OCIC, including resourcing and financial management;
- To maintain a close relationship with OCIC management to ensure the effective and efficient utilization of the resources of OCIC; and
- To enhance the public image of OCIC and its mission in collaboration with the staff of OCIC.

All OCIC staff and many OCIC Board Directors work remotely from home. Candidates to the OCIC Board of Directors must reside in Ontario, must have access to a computer and high-speed internet connection, and must be able to work virtually with us.

About You
You can make a valuable contribution to the OCIC Board of Directors if you are a representative of a Member Organization or you are an individual living in Ontario (including outside of larger urban centers), and associated with the Council, that seeks:
- to volunteer your time and energy, and to apply your skills, knowledge, lived-experience and perspectives on international cooperation and solidarity
- to bring your lived-experience or experience working with equity-seeking groups (particularly Indigenous, racialized, and gender diverse individuals)
- to bring expertise and interest in one or more of the following areas:
- - - anti-racist and anti-oppressive practice
- - - charity law and legal/compliance issues of relevance to non-profits
- - -data privacy, cyber security and digital strategy
- - - financial management, audit oversight and organizational risk management
- - - fundraising and fund diversification
- - - global citizenship education and public engagement
- - - government and academic relations
- - - human resource management
- - - intersectional, feminist understanding, analysis and approaches
- - - monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning
- - - membership-based associations
- - - networking and member acquisition
- - - partnership building and brokering
