Webinar: CRA Audits of Registered Charities – how registered charities can prepare to avoid a negative outcome

Event Details

The CRA audits approximately 200 registered charities per year. An audit can be a relatively routine affair, especially for a simpler charity, but many charities find the audit process confusing and stressful. In addition, CRA has begun to focus their audit attention on large charities and higher-risk charities, which often have more complicated compliance issues. Learn how to confidently deal with an audit and prepare your charity for an audit. This webinar will cover issues such as:

  • How are charities selected by CRA for audit?
  • What documents will CRA be reviewing in an audit?
  • What is CRA’s “education first” approach?
  • Top tips for handling a CRA audit
  • Actions to avoid before an audit
  • What non-compliance does CRA typically find in audits of registered charities?
  • Various possible outcomes of an audit
  • How does CRA deal with serious non-compliance and aggravated non-compliance?
  • How can the involvement of professional advisors hurt or help a charity in dealing with CRA?

This webinar is presented by Mark Blumberg, a lawyer at the law firm Blumbergs in Toronto, who works almost exclusively with Canadian non-profits and registered charities on compliance issues. Mark is also the editor of www.CanadianCharityLaw.ca – a Canadian charity law website dedicated to news about the Canadian charitable sector as well as legal and ethical issues for Canadian charities operating in Canada or abroad.
