Brief Description:

The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-based international development and global education organizations and individual associate members working globally for social justice.

Reporting to the Community Engagement and Gender Equality Specialist, the Programs Lead Volunteer(s) will work with OCIC staff, members and other stakeholders in the coordination of OCIC’s Communications Strategy. This is a virtual position, with periodic meetings and activities in downtown Toronto. Candidates will ideally reside in the GTA.

Scope of work:
– Actively participating in planning meetings and providing input towards the development of Youth Policy Makers Hub (YPH) and Gender Equality Hub (GE Hub) activities.
– Assisting in facilitating broad-based participation of OCIC members and key stakeholders in YPH and GE Hub activities.
– Providing administrative support, including writing minutes, developing agendas, and coordinating meetings related to YPH and GE Hub activities.
– Ensuring gender equality, anti-oppression and anti-racism themes are integrated into activities, as outlined in our funding agreements and organizational policies.
– Helping to document and report on good practices and lessons learned.
– Supporting the preparation of qualitative, quantitative and financial reporting items, as necessary.
– Committing to 5-7 hours per week from mid-August 2023 to mid-May 2024.

Desired Qualifications:
– Understanding of and passion for gender equality and youth engagement issues.
– Experience in supporting community engagement activities with youth audiences and diverse stakeholders.
– Individuals with grassroots organizing experiences, lived experiences of intersectionality, alternative educational routes and non-traditional backgrounds.
– Creative ideas, enthusiasm, skillful communications and writing abilities.
– Knowledge of or interest in global social justice, environmental and climate change, international cooperation, gender equality and solidarity work with non-profit and grassroots organizers.
– Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
– Detail-oriented, with a demonstrated ability to organize work, set priorities, meet deadlines, and track information, both independently and as part of a team.
– Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Zoom and Google Workspace.
