The Volunteer’s Role
The main objective of this placement is to strengthen the Responsible Tourism Project, so local communities can be in charge of the process and develop sustainable tourism business, introducing themselves in new markets with the help of our partner, Centro Bartolome de las Casas (CBC), and achieve an economically beneficial outcome for all stakeholders, while establishing sustainable community-based tourism (CBT) in Cusco communities.
Tasks will be divided between our partner, the non-profit sectiong of CBC (in charge of capacity building process, systematization and institutionalization of the learning and strengthening process until 2019) and the travel agency CBCtupay (for-profit branch in charge of product development, marketing and sales, based on the systematization and accompanying work of CBC NGO with the communities). The staff of CBC and CBCtupay in Cusco will be directly involved in the systematization of knowledge, the implementation of tools, product development, CBT marketing and sales and the whole process monitoring.
The overall aim of the project is the auto-determination of the native Andean communities, taking actively part in the sustainable CBT business, the Cuso International volunteer will be integrated in the process with the objective to foster this aim by contributing auto-determination based on knowledge building in the field of CBT and rural development.
As a volunteer, you will:
-Accompany the staff in work process of the community-based tourism (CBT) project
-Support rural tourism organizational system, as well as support result-based activities
-Integrate the capacity-building and organizational results of the CBT project into CBCtupay -travel packages
-Process the rural tourism experiences by destination (native community) for product development (CBT tours) and promotion
-Capacity building on promotional techniques and channels for the rural tourism experience for staff working in the project
Essential Academic Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in economy, tourism, business, marketing, rural development, communication, or related fields
Essential Professional Background:
- Strong networking skills and the ability to communicate clearly to a wide range of audiences and stakeholders
- High level capacity for analytical research
- High level of intercultural competence due to the variety of stakeholders in a Quechuan-speaking
- Rural context knowledge as well as international context understanding
Support Package
