Multi-sectoral Solutions Lab
Event Details
This Multi-sectoral Solutions Lab, is a collaborative initiative between the Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC), Youth Challenge International (YCI), and the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education at the University of Toronto (OISE).
Join us in harnessing the innovation and knowledge of youth and practitioners in the fields of international cooperation and global citizenship education and action to ideate solutions for issues related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) #4: Quality Education and #8: Decent Work & Economic Growth.
Part 1 – a pre-lab 2-hr webinar on Saturday February 1, from 10am-12pm in which participants will be introduced to design thinking methods.
Part 2 – a Solutions Lab on Saturday February 8, from 10am-5pm facilitated using design thinking methods to come up with and pitch innovative solutions to these global issues.
Part 3 – a post-lab 2-hour follow-up webinar (date TBC) to see how these solutions worked out and engage in further discussion.
The Solutions Lab will explore the following questions:
– How might development organizations communicate; reach out to and engage diverse youth publics in the SDGs and help strengthen their understanding of these issues?
– How might youth lead, explore, and develop employment solutions for youth in Canada and abroad particularly in the fields of international cooperation and global citizenship education and action?
Participants will be trained in design thinking methodologies to address these questions, and utilize these methods to develop innovative solutions related to range of challenges such as; youth underemployment, the gig economy, climate change impacts on livelihoods and the effects of technology on traditional educational models.
