Background:

The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-based international development and global education organizations and individuals working globally for social justice.
Interested in gaining experience supporting youth engagement in policy issues in the international cooperation sector? Reporting to the Community Engagement and Gender Equality Specialist, the Programs Lead Volunteer(s) will work with OCIC staff, members and other key actors in the coordination of OCIC’s Youth Policy-Makers Hub (YPH).

This is a virtual position, with periodic meetings and activities in Toronto. Candidates will ideally reside in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), in Ontario, Canada.

Scope of work:

Actively participate in planning meetings and provide input and administrative support for Youth Policy Makers Hub (YPH) activities
Organize and leading bi-monthly virtual Coffee Chats with YPH members
Assist in facilitating participation of OCIC members, partners and other key actors in YPH activities
Help to document and report on good practices and lessons learned
Support quantitative and qualitative data collection and analysis on an ongoing basis, using attendance sheets, activity-specific evaluation forms, and other MEAL tools
Commit to approximately 5 hours per week (or an average of 20 hours per month), from August 2025 to March 2026

Desired Qualifications:

Understanding of, passion for and experience supporting youth engagement
Grassroots organizing experiences, lived experiences of intersectionality, alternative educational routes and non-traditional backgrounds
Creative ideas, enthusiasm, skillful communications and writing abilities
Knowledge of or interest in global social justice issues and the work of international cooperation and solidarity-focused non-profit and community-led organizations
Knowledge of national and international policy frameworks and forums such as the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), Canada's Feminist International Assistance Policy (FIAP), and the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.
Understanding of gender equality, anti-racism and anti-oppression principles and practice
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
Excellent interpersonal, communication and writing skills, and a demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups
Detail-oriented, with experience managing logistics and a demonstrated ability to work independently and as part of a team

Work from home:

All OCIC staff are currently working from home. The successful candidate must have access to a computer and a high-speed internet connection and must be able to work virtually.
