About The Role

Raising The Village (RTV) is seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Senior Accountant to join our growing team. This role is pivotal in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of our financial operations as we continue to expand our impact in underserved communities.
This is a hybrid role, with designated in-office days in our downtown Toronto office three days per week.
 International travel to East Africa may be required. 

Key Responsibilities

Financial Accounting
Responsible for month-end and year-end period close processes
Verify, allocate, post, and reconcile transactions
Produce error-free accounting reports and results
Analyze financial information and summarize financial status, making
recommendations
 Document policies, procedures, and workflow for assigned responsibilities
Fixed asset processing and reporting
 Maintain prepaid schedules and ensure the accuracy of booking GL entries

Financial Reporting and Analysis 
Prepare monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including:
Variance actuals to a budget report
Donor reports
Burn rate reports
Deferred revenue report
Partner advance account reconciliations
Support Program in conducting variance analysis of budget to actuals to identify financial risks and flag anomalies
Review financial summaries for donor reports based on reporting requirements in concert with the Program Officer and Country Office
Support budget re-alignment and forecasting processes, including review and detailed commentary of all draft budgets
Support the analysis and monitoring of resource allocation
Provide coaching, knowledge transfer, and guidance to CO Finance and Program Officer teams for financial reporting

Proposal Development Support 
Support FP&A and the Partnership team in reviewing budgets for new proposals and
Amendments

Audits 
Lead planning, preparation and pre-audit review for the successful execution of
audits
Complete the required analysis, financial statements, and documentation for the
annual external audit
Assist with annual external audit and DOI examination
Assist in preparing assigned schedules for the annual and interim audit

Expense Processing
Review invoices for appropriate documentation and approval prior to payment, ensuring compliance with policies and accurate coding
Ensure timely booking of expenses for reimbursement
Maintain accurate expense claims files to ensure audit readiness

The Ideal Candidate will have: 
Superior financial analysis skills, with intermediate to advanced level expertise in MS Excel
Detail-oriented to record and monitor financial information accurately
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to develop strong working relationships across cultural and organizational boundaries with internal and external stakeholders and manage through influence
Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines, effectively prioritizing tasks
A proactive self-starter with a positive attitude
Strong team player who collaborates effectively across cross-functional teams
Strong English verbal and written skills.

Required Skills and Expertise
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting / Finance / Business
Accounting professional designation in progress (CPA) is desirable
3-5 years experience in project finance and accounting
Knowledge of GAAP and Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations
Previous experience in the non-profit sector in a multi-currency environment preferred
Working knowledge and experience with Sage financial system is an asset

Compensation & Growth
The starting salary commensurate for this position is between 55,000-75,000 CAD per annum. Salary is calculated based on qualifications and experience. In addition to a starting salary commensurate with your experience, you’ll receive a compensation package that includes health benefits, optional Group RRSP (and 4-weeks vacation in line with our policies.
