The Volunteer’s Role
The purpose of the placement is to provide the necessary support to the Climate Change Division (CCD) in conducting research into current global climate change frameworks, policies and mandates to effectively lobby for a reform of Jamaica’s Climate Change Legislation. As a volunteer, you will document elements of existing legislations from other countries and you will support the process of defining what a potential legislation could like for Jamaica and the benefits of a reform. The Climate Change Division will need to have a compelling case to present to Parliament for consideration and your role is conducting and documenting thorough research and supporting the drafting of a potential legislation to table to Parliament.
As a volunteer, you will:
- Support the team in conducting extensive and robust research into existing global climate change legislation and frameworks.
- Support with creating a roadmap on reforming Jamaica’s climate change legislation
- Work with the CCD team to develop a compelling case to put forward to cabinet.
Essential Academic Qualifications:
-Combination of courses and or training in policy and research
-Relevant certificates/diplomas in climate change
Essential Professional Background:
-At least 2 years’ experience working on climate change related projects
-At least 2 years’ experience working on strategic planning initiatives
-Experience working with multiple stakeholders and working on partnerships
-Experience working in policy & research & reporting
-Excellent oral and writing skills
-Good report writing skills
