Background:
The Ontario Council for International Cooperation (OCIC) is an expanding community of Ontario-based international development and global education organizations and individual associate members working globally for social justice.
Reporting to the Membership & Administration Coordinator, OCIC Symposium Event Volunteers will work with OCIC staff to support the event and logistics for OCIC’s in-person Symposium.

– Opportunity to listen and learn about sector specific topics, including global stories of change from individuals, organizations and projects, and participate in Symposium sessions
Required components of the role:
– Candidates must currently reside in the GTA and be able to commute to CSI – Spadina
– Attend a virtual ‘Event Logistics’ meeting in advance of the Symposium
– Complete an online Accessibility Training prior to Symposium
– Comply with OCIC Code of Ethics and values
– Available to volunteer in person on one or more of the Symposium dates and times noted below
– Preference will be given to individuals who are available to volunteer for both Symposium days
Scope of role:
Volunteers will be asked to help with a range of supportive duties, including:
– helping set up and/or clean up of Symposium event spaces and meeting rooms
– assisting with registration of Symposium participants and contributors
– basic food services (setting out food and beverages for lunch and snacks, refilling coffee and refreshments, etc)
– helping to ensure sessions are on time
– providing technical and table facilitation support, if requested
– supporting Symposium participants and contributors in a respectful and empathetic manner
– liaising with OCIC and/or CSI event staff for any questions, issues, needs for accommodation, etc
– other duties as assigned
Desired Qualifications:
– Excellent interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse groups as part of a team
– Experience in event logistics and in communicating and liaising with various individuals part of different groups and/or organizations
– Experience in volunteering and/or working at international cooperation, or similar in-person conference/events
– Understanding of and passion for international cooperation and social justice
– Energetic, organized and dependable
– Interested in creating the best event possible by providing the best experience for participants
