This panel webinar will engage people of all genders in a critical, intersectional dialogue on the issue of period poverty in Canada. Our expert panel will discuss how menstrual equity may be achieved
Event Details
As this year’s International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women approaches, Menstruation Should be Free, PERIOD will provide attendees with the opportunity to participate in an intersectional discussion on the subject of period poverty and menstrual equity in Canada.
Experts from organizations including The Period Purse, Changing the Flow, and The Red Mvmt will share expertise and resources to equip attendees with the necessary tools to advocate for menstrual equity in their own communities. There will be time at the end of the panel for attendees to ask panelists any questions they may have.

Panelists
Veronica Brown, Ontario Chapter Founder, Moon Time Sisters
Veronica Brown is a non-Indigenous Treaty person in Canada who works within the Indigenous community through an organization called Moon Time Sisters; a period equity group that sends menstrual products to northern communities. She is the founder of the Ontario chapter and coordinates drives, shipments, and volunteers for the program. Veronica is also an Early Interventionist at York Region and a part-time Professor of Indigenous Studies at Centennial College where she teaches about the shared history of the First Peoples of Canada and settlers. She resides in Toronto, within the boundaries of Treaty 13 and Williams Treaties, on the traditional territory of the Anishinabek Nations, the Mississaugas of the Credit, the Haudenoshonee and the Huron-Wendat Nations.
Danielle Kaftarian, Operations Manager at The Period Purse
Danielle Kaftarian has volunteered with The Period Purse since its inception in 2017. She has a background in Finance and Accounting, and has always been attracted to helping out others. Danielle stepped away from her career to take care of her two sons.
Keyna Sarkar, Founder of The Red Mvmnt
Keyna Sarkar is the founder and Executive Director of The Red Mvmnt, a youth-led nonprofit focused on advancing menstrual equity sustainably. She has been the driving force for the provision of free menstrual products in municipal public washrooms in her city. Keyna has also led a number of successful period product drives. Currently, through The Red Mvmnt, she works to educate everyone on periods, and provide period products to menstruators in need.

- People of all genders and backgrounds are welcome (and encouraged!) to attend this event, whether or not they menstruate themselves. This event is intended to provide an inclusive space for all to learn.
