The Ontario Council for International Cooperation and Canadian Feed The Children held an event to deepen dialogue and strengthen solidarity between Canadians and Indigenous communities with interest in food security, food sovereignty and community-led partnerships as a model for social change.
This event, offered a platform to open OCIC’s International Development Week 2018 program in Ontario, and welcome Transformations: Stories of Partnership, Resilience and Positive Change Photojournalism Initiative community partners. Providing an opportunity to learn from the experience, insights and wisdom of guest speakers, including:
Rodney Contois – Director, Aki Food, Garden Hill First Nation
Zack Flett – Community Outreach Coordinator, Aki Food, Garden Hill First Nation
Erica Ward – Coordinator, Natoaganeg Food Centre – Pistamune’kemk, Eel Ground First Nation
Steven Bourne – Chief Executive Officer, at Ripple Farms Inc.
Carolynne Crawley – Food Justice and Indigenous Food Access Manager, FoodShare Toronto
Professor Glen Filson – Capacity Development, PhD Rural Studies at Guelph University, Professor Filson is the author of “Eat Local, Taste Global: How Ethno-cultural Foods Reach our Table“
Sasha McNicoll – Coalition for Healthy School Food Coordinator, Food Secure Canada
Participants also had the opportunity to share their experience, and contribute to peer-discussions on topics determined in collaboration with others.
Participants representing relevant organizations or initiatives in both international cooperation and domestic spaces were also welcomed to showcase their programs, research, policy reports, arts or community-based initiatives in the event space, during registration and networking periods.
