During your International Internship, you’ll be working with our awesome partner EDC. Education Development Center (EDC) is a global nonprofit that advances lasting solutions to improve education, promote health, and expand economic opportunity. Since 1958, EDC has been a leader in designing, implementing, and evaluating powerful and innovative programs in more than 80 countries around the world.
During your International Internship, you’ll be working with our awesome partner Worldreader. Worldreader is a global nonprofit organization on a mission to create a world where everyone is a reader. Their West Africa hub is centered in Accra, Ghana, and home to nine full-time employees and numerous volunteers. Worldreader Ghana is proud to work with more than 25 Ghanaian publishers, and to date, they have digitized over 405 Ghanaian books in 6 languages including English, Akuapem-Twi, Éwé, Twi-Akan, Fante and Ga. They are currently working in 74 schools and 6 community libraries in Ghana and have impacted the lives of over 25,000 active readers by providing 8,419 devices and delivering over 1 million books.
In February 2018, the District Education Office (DEO) of Kwaebibirem in Ghana launched a digital reading project for schools of unprecedented scale: the Ghana District Scale (GDS) project. The project aims to bring digital reading to all 90 public primary schools within the district of Kwaebibirem in Ghana and involve the distribution of 2,000+ devices.
What you’ll do:
Conduct a landscape analysis and feasibility study for the maintenance, replacement, and recycling of the equipment associated with Worldreader programs.
Research environmental policies and practices of similar organizations; produce a set of recommendations for Worldreader.
Produce a report on environmental legislation and compliance requirements of each region in which we operate; develop a system for how the organization will stay abreast of legislative changes.
Investigate the options for local repair, replacement, and recycling of each type of equipment used in our reading programs (tablets, cases, cords, solar panels, etc.).
Support Worldreader staff in partner care and communication regarding environmental legislation, compliance, policy and practice.
Act as a champion for environmental issues within Worldreader.

A genuine interest in and understanding of environmental issues, relevant legislation and renewable energy sources.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Strong research skills
Proficient in Google Suite, MS Office, and other collaboration tools and software.
Highly organized and motivated self-starter
Possess a professional demeanor and demonstrate sound judgment.
Good work ethic; Must be a team player and a collaborative worker
Possess some knowledge of the non-profit sector
Be highly organized, capable of multi-tasking and able to work under pressure.
