Featuring a keynote address from Alex Neve, Secretary General, Amnesty International, Canadian Section English-speaking and four concurrent workshops:

12 Years a Prisoner and His Family Needs Him Back – Release Huseyin Celil Now! His lawyer and the file coordinator will give you the background, seek your help and creative ideas for advocacy.

Who Wants to be an Ombudsperson? – Delve into Amnesty’s successful campaign , “Open for Justice” to create a watchdog for responsible business practices abroad.

What’s New in Urgent Actions (UAs)? – Explore the various platforms for taking urgent action to find your best fit. Hear stories from an AI international campaigner to motivate your work.

Refugees Issues Interactive Workshop – “This is Not a Game”- created by Medecins Sans Frontieres to raise awareness & advocate about the humanitarian and political crisis in the NTCA & Mexico. Your chance to provide input to improve the “game” as an educational and advocacy tool!

During lunch, besides eating excellent food (includes vegetarian, vegan options) you’ll have the opportunity to mingle with fellow activists, chat with some presenters, sign petitions and purchase cool merchandise!

After lunch, our special guest speaker is: Michelle Shepard – renowned Author, Journalist, Filmmaker which will be followed by a panel discussion on “The Challenges & Opportunities to Activism in the Digital Age.” Hear from the Citizen Lab; a Professor of Journalism; and Amnesty International on this important issue.

We’ll be ending the day with an Amnesty Action on Ayotzinapa, Mexico DAY OF ACTION

You do not have to be a registered member of Amnesty International. This is a great opportunity to develop your activism skills & human rights knowledge while connecting with other members and supporters.
