Defending the right to learn: How Canada can support Afghan women and girls
Event Summary
Take part in a conversation with Afghan women living in Afghanistan and as refugees in Pakistan, to know more about their lived experiences and priorities with respect to education access.
Event Details
Education is a fundamental right of every individual and a powerful means to advance gender equality globally. But in Afghanistan, girls and women are prevented from attending secondary school and higher education. Eighty percent of school-aged girls and women are out of school and nearly 30% of girls have never entered primary education. The important role of Afghan women in society has been undermined and they are being deprived of their rights and dignity.
We invite you to take part in a conversation with Afghan women living in Afghanistan and as refugees in Pakistan, to know more about their lived experiences and priorities with respect to education access. Learn from organizations in Canada, Afghanistan, and Pakistan about the challenges they are facing in implementing projects to meet the education needs of Afghan girls and women. Find out how you as a Canadian can defend the right of Afghan girls and women to learn and to live a life of dignity.
